Creating AIM Set Candidates

In order to create AIM sets, you must first create virtual volumes to use with AIM. Refer to Creating Linear Virtual Volumes if necessary.

Next, using virtual volumes from AIM Source and Destination Servers,  assign them as AIM Source and Destination Volumes in the AIM set.

Consider the following when creating your AIM set candidates:

  • Each set must have one source virtual volume and one destination virtual volume. AIM allows mirroring between a single source virtual volume and single or multiple destination virtual volumes on the same destination server.

  • Destination virtual volumes must be created with the primary volume of a standard mirror (not multipath) from the destination storage server.  (Source virtual volumes can be created using primary or secondary volumes of a mirror (any type) from the source storage server.)

  • You will need one AIM set for each application server volume you want to replicate.

  • The destination virtual volume must be the same size or larger than the AIM source virtual volume.

  • AIM source and destination virtual volumes in a set must be all static (standard protected) or all dynamic (NMVs).

  • The source virtual volume is mapped to and used by application servers, creating the basis of your source data. You can “AIM” existing SANmelody virtual volumes that have been in use on application servers. In this case, these virtual volumes would be used as the source virtual volumes of AIM sets. The data written to mapped virtual volumes is the source of your AIM transfer.
