Creating an AIM Group

AIM groups are used to perform commands and functions on multiple AIM sets simultaneously. Groups promote coherency and consistency for inter-dependent volumes and facilitate scripting. Once an AIM group is created, you can add one or more existing AIM virtual volumes to the group, provided that they are from the same storage server. Commands/functions issued to the specified group affect all AIM sets assigned to that group.

If a Group command is received and any of the group’s destination volumes are offline, the command will not be processed.

Note: Only Source volumes from the same storage server can be used in AIM Groups.  If a Group command is received and any of the Group’s Destination volumes are offline, the command will not be processed.

  1. Open the AIM Source Manager snap-in, select AIM Source Volumes, and choose Configure AIM Group from the context menu.

  2. In the Configure AIM Group dialog box, select an existing group, or click the New Group button to create a group and select it.

  3. Select one or more source volumes in the list to become members of the group and click the green arrow.

  4. Click OK.

  5. Apply the configuration.
