Setting Buffer Destage Mode

The Buffer Destage Mode is the manner in which data is sent from the AIM destination buffer to the AIM destination virtual volume. The mode is set from the AIM Destination Manager on the destination system. Data can be sent in two ways:

  • Single I/O Mode – AIM processes one I/O at a time in a sequential manner.

  • Multiple I/O Mode – AIM processes a user-defined number of I/ Os at a time in a sequential manner. This is the default setting with a queue depth of 8 I/Os.

To select the destage mode, follow these steps:

  1. Open AIM Destination Manager.

  2. In the left pane, select the AIM Destination Manager component in the tree and choose Buffer Destage Mode from the context menu.

  3. In the Buffer Destage Mode dialog box, select the mode for destaging to the AIM destination virtual volume.

  1. If you select Multiple I/O Mode, enter a number between 1 and 32 in the I/O Queue Depth box. This number represents the number of outstanding I/Os, per virtual volume, being removed from the buffer and sent to the destination.

If I/ Os on the application server are sequential, Multiple I/O Mode may accelerate the processing of AIM files on the destination system. Experiment with different numbers to discover what works best with your AIM configuration. If I/ Os on the application server are not sequential, use the Single I/O Mode.

  1. Click OK to apply the changes.

  2. In Windows Services, restart the DataCore AIM Destination Service.
