Sending Group User-Defined Markers

AIM has the facility to create consistency for interdependent volumes by performing the same operations on a group of virtual volumes. This command sends user-defined markers in all the AIM sets in the selected AIM Group.

The markers for an AIM group are user-defined. You can specify the name of the marker. The user-defined marker is case sensitive and can be comprised of up to 15 alpha-numeric characters, symbols, and spaces.

Before sending markers, the associated activity (event or executable file) to be performed on the destination system for the marker must be defined in AIM Destination Manager, refer to Defining Marker Actions.

The Group menu options will only be activated for AIM sets that are part of a group. Group user-defined markers will be sent immediately. If members of the AIM Group are not online, the command will time out after 30 minutes.

To send a Group User-Defined Marker:

  1. Open AIM Source Manager.

  2. In the left pane, select AIM Source Volumes.

  3. In the right pane, select a virtual volume of any AIM set in the group. The group name will appear in the Group ID column. Choose Group User-Defined Marker from the context menu.

  4. In the Group User-Defined Marker dialog box, enter the user-defined marker.

A message appears in the Destination Log file when markers have been successfully set.
