Creating Mirrors in NMV Pools

You have the ability to mirror the disks in your pools to add another dimension of high availability to the SAN by creating fault tolerant pools.

To create mirrors from raw disks in pools:
  1. Open Disk Manager snap-in in the left pane and select the NMV Pools component in the console tree.

  3. In the lower-right pane, select the disk that you want to mirror, and choose Add Mirror from the shortcut menu.

  4. In the Add Raw Disk Mirror dialog box, select a disk from the list of available disks and click OK. The NMV pool is now fault tolerant.

Here is an image of a partially fault tolerant pool. Disk 2 and 4 are mirrors (fault tolerant) and Disk 3 is partially fault tolerant, making the pool partially fault tolerant. If Disk 3 had a mirror, the entire pool would be fault tolerant. The pool and disk icons change color to reflect that. The NMV pool and disk icons are described in the Icons topic.
