Deleting Virtual Volumes

A mapped virtual volume may not be deleted.  You must unmap a virtual volume from an application server before it can be deleted.  If you are using AIM or Snapshot, delete the configuration before deleting virtual volumes.

To delete an unmapped virtual volume:

  1. In the Virtual Volumes Snap-in, right-click the virtual volume to delete and select Delete.

  2. Click OK on the warning to continue. All data will be deleted from the disk when deleted.

After a virtual volume is deleted, the volumes that were part of the deleted virtual volume will be marked previously used. Volumes is this state are marked with a special icon (SANmelody dirtyvol Deleting Virtual Volumes), referred to the “Previously Used” icon.

The previously used volumes cannot be used in another virtual volume until they are erased, nor can they be released or deleted.  This ensures that the application data that is stored on that volume cannot be inadvertently read by unauthorized hosts, by wrapping that volume into another virtual volume and mapping it to another host.

After applying the configuration, you can delete or reuse these volumes.
