Enable Multipathing on Standard Mirrors

The Multipathing option allows application servers to have continued access in the event of any one component failing in the paths between application servers and storage servers.

Use these instructions to upgrade a standard virtual volume mirror to enable multipathing capability, even when mapped. It is mandatory that the DataCore MPIO product, DataCore Alternate Pathing product, a qualified 3rd party alternate path product, or a cluster path product be installed on the application server.

CAUTION: Before beginning, refer to About Mirroring and High Availability and Best Practices for Mirroring  for important multipathing  information.
Follow these steps to add multipathing capability to a standard mirror:
  1. From the SANmelody snap-in, select the Virtual Volume snap-in in the console tree.

  1. In the right pane, select the standard virtual volume that you would like to upgrade to multipath. (If you have not created a mirror yet, first follow the steps to create a standard mirror in Creating Virtual Volume Mirrors.)

  2. Select Upgrade to Multipath from the context menu to open the Set Multipath dialog box.

  1. In the dialog box, select the appropriate multipath type.

    1. Alternate Path (AP) – used for the DataCore AP product on the application server. Select Bootable to define volumes as having a bootable operating system.

    2. 3rd Party Alternate Path/MPIO (3PAP) – used for the DataCore MPIO product and qualified 3rd party AP products on the application server.

    3. Cluster Path (CP) – used for cluster-enabled application servers, such as HACMP or Windows Clusters.

  1. Click OK to complete the changes and close the dialog box.

  2. Apply the configuration changes. SANmelody software changes the mappings to reflect the newly created multipath configuration.
