Restoring When a Source Data Disk Fails
This section provides the procedures for restoring in case of a source data disk failure. Restoring can be accomplished in several ways. If you wish to restore using Snapshot, refer to Using Snapshot to Restore When a Source Data Disk Fails, otherwise, follow the steps below:
This is the process used for data disk failure, not the process for restoring in the case of an entire AIM system failure.
Use the following table to step through the procedures in order. Refer to the associated topics for additional instructions, if necessary.

Steps 1-4 are performed at the original SOURCE site. | |

To remedy the disk failure, plug in a new disk or create new volumes on the AIM Source server, as necessary. |

On the AIM Source server, create a virtual volume. |
|
3 |
On the AIM Source server, assign the new virtual volume to be the new AIM Destination virtual volume. Refer to Creating AIM Destination Volumes. |

On the AIM Source server, delete the original AIM Set. Refer to Deleting AIM Set Associations. |

Steps 5-8 are performed at the original DESTINATION site. | |

On the AIM Destination server, remove the original AIM Destination virtual volume. Refer to Removing AIM Set Candidates. |

Use the original AIM Destination virtual volume as the new AIM Source virtual volume and “AIM” that virtual volume back to the original AIM Source server in order to recreate the Source virtual volume. Follow these steps:

Check the AIM Destination Log to ensure the initialization has finished and the data has transferred to the new AIM Destination virtual volume. Then, the AIM set used for recovery can be deleted. Refer to Deleting AIM Set Associations. |

If desired, recreate a new AIM set (with the same settings as the original AIM set) using the virtual volume with the transferred data (from Step 5) as the AIM Source virtual volume and the original AIM Destination virtual volume. |
