Creating/Modifying a MapStore
A MapStore is a virtual volume designated to hold state information and bitmaps for all snapshot sets, providing persistent storage. A MapStore ensures that snapshot sets remain valid, without loss of the destination virtual volume state or data, when a storage server is stopped or restarted while sets are enabled. When a MapStore is created, all snapshot sets (pre-existing or future) will use the MapStore. A MapStore does not affect the performance of enabled snapshot sets. The use of Mapstore is optional, but highly recommended.
When you designate a virtual volume as a Mapstore, existing data on that virtual volume will be overwritten.
Use these guidelines when creating a Mapstore:
-
Must be on the same storage server as the snapshot sets.
 -
Create the Mapstore from a dynamic pool using the default size. Since dynamic pools are thin provisioned, the actual amount of store used will be the minimum required and will not exceed 256 GB.
 -
Must be an unmapped virtual volume.
 -
Cannot be the source or destination in a snapshot set.
 -
Cannot be used by AIM.

Follow these steps to designate a virtual volume as a MapStore:
-
Select the Virtual Volumes component in the DataCore SANmelody snap-in.
 -
In the right pane, select a virtual volume in the list and choose Properties from the context menu.
 -
On the General tab of the Properties dialog box, check the MapStore box.
 -
Click OK.
 -
Apply the configuration.

Changing a MapStore
Change the MapStore by clearing the checkbox in the Properties dialog box and then selecting another virtual volume as the MapStore.
Deleting a MapStore
The MapStore virtual volume may be deleted in the same manner as any virtual volume, by selecting it and choosing Delete from the context menu.
