Taking a Snapshot of a Source Virtual Volume

When you want to take a snapshot of a source virtual volume it is referred to as “enabling” a snapshot and the command performed on the virtual volume is the Enable command. This command creates a logical image of data that is instantly available for use, and is independent of the source volume from which it was created. After a snapshot is enabled, additional commands can be performed on it.

WARNING:  Before performing the Enable command on a snapshot set, the source volume of the snapshot should be in a known state, meaning that the application server I/O should be stopped and the cache should be flushed before “enabling” the snapshot.

To enable a snapshot set:
  1. Open the Snapshot Manager snap-in and select SnapshotSets in the console tree.

  2. In the right pane, select the snapshot set in the upper-right pane that you want to enable and choose Enable from the context menu. Before the snapshot is “enabled,” the status is “disabled.”
