Establish an HA Partnership

In this topic, you will create a partnership between two storage servers. In order to do this, configuration must be performed from both servers.

Very Important:

WARNING:  If you have an existing configuration on a SANmelody storage server and you want to add a partner, it is very important to begin step 1 (below) using the new “unconfigured” storage server.  and follow the instructions below. This will preserve the existing configuration. Please read the instructions carefully, as they will instruct you when and what to do on both storage servers.

If you are configuring SANmelody software for the first time, you may begin the instructions below from either storage server because both are considered “unconfigured.”

Before beginning:
  • The first storage server used to begin configuration will be referred to as “Server1.”

  • Ensure both storage servers have SANmelody software installed and running.

  • If you are configuring for the first time, at this point both servers are in Read/Write mode in standalone configurations.

To Create a Partnership:
Configuration begins on Server1:
  1. Check the status bar to ensure Server1 is in Read/Write mode. (The status bar is available when the Storage Server component is selected. The Lock button on the toolbar is used to toggle between modes. Refer to Read + Write/Read Only Switch.)
