Placing Partitioned Disks Under SANmelody Software Control
In this topic, you will import initialized, partitioned physical disks into the SANmelody environment to be managed. All unformatted partitions, as prepared in Discovering and Partitioning Physical Disks.
These partition-based volumes can then be used to create virtual volumes and mapped to application servers as storage. After disks are managed by SANmelody software, they should be controlled and monitored using SANmelody software.
CAUTION: If you are using the Network Managed Volumes (NMV) feature, SKIP THIS TOPIC.
WARNING: In Windows Server 2008, partitions may be deleted even if managed by SANmelody software. If deleting partitions in Windows Disk Management, heed all warnings and ensure partitions are NOT being managed by SANmelody software before deleting them!
To put partitioned disks under the control of SANmelody software:

In the SANmelody software, open the Storage Server snap-in.

Right-click the storage server and select Protect All Volumes from the shortcut menu. You will see a message letting you know that the volumes were protected successfully. In the lower-pane of the Storage Server snap-in, the volumes created from the partitioned disks will be listed. (If some of the new volumes are not listed, ensure that you have not exceeded your licensed disk limit. See Exceeding License Storage Limit.)
NOTE: The volume icons will appear in red until the configuration changes have been applied. After applying, the icons will appear in the standard color.

Click the Apply Configuration button
on the toolbar. The Apply command saves your configuration. If you close without applying the configuration, you will get a message asking if you want to apply the change.

These instructions are performed locally; if you are licensed for HA, you should follow these steps on both servers.
