Licensing Information

You will receive a license file with (1) new installations of your software, (2) if you have added new licensed options (for instance, AIM or Snapshot), or (3) if you have increased the storage capacity limits in your license.

The license file that you receive will have the name “My_Company_################.lic” where My_Company is the name of your company and where ################ is the license number. The license number is also used as the storage server serial number (or WWN) in the SANmelody product. Each storage server has a unique license number.

For new installations, your SANmelody software will need to be activated; unless it is a Trial License (see below) in which case it cannot be activated. SANmelody software will run for 30 days without activation, after which time the software will stop running. You may activate your permanent license at any time, during, or after the 30-day grace period (in which case, you will be able to re-start your software if it has stopped). Refer to Activating a Permanent License for complete instructions.

After activating, the software will run indefinitely. There is no need to re-activate your software if you are upgrading your license.

Permanent licenses can be purchased by contacting your DataCore Sales Representative or DataCore Authorized Partner (http://datacore.com/about_datacore/about_sales.asp).

Trial License

The license file downloaded from the DataCore Web site in order to “Try Now!” and can be used free for 30 days is considered a Trial License. You cannot activate this license and the software will stop after 30 days.

If you wish to upgrade your Trial License to a permanent license, contact DataCore Sales and provide your Trial License number so that the same license number can be converted to a permanent license. A Trial License that has been upgraded to a permanent license can then be activated as normal. (See Activating a Permanent License). You will then be able to simply upgrade to your permanent license. Refer to Upgrading a License for complete instructions.

WARNING:  If you do not provide your Trial License number to DataCore Sales, the permanent license will contain a different License Number and you will not be able to upgrade your Trial License and will have to uninstall and reinstall your software and lose your existing configuration.

Adding New Options and Increasing Storage Capacity on the License

If you purchase new options (such as Snapshot or AIM) or increase the storage capacity for your storage server, you will receive a new license from DataCore Software. When you receive the new license, you will then have to upgrade your license in order to access the new features. Your new license file will have the same license number with the new features included in the license. Refer to Upgrading a License for instructions.

Contact you DataCore Sales or a DataCore Partner for complete information on SANmelody options available.

Exceeding License Limits

If you approach the limit of your license for the amount of managed storage, you will get a warning message. Even if you reach the license limit, your existing configuration remains intact. Contact by your DataCore Sales Representative or DataCore Authorized Partner (http://datacore.com/about_datacore/about_sales.asp) to increase your license limits. If you added a disk which causes you to exceed your license limit, see Exceeding License Storage Limit.
