SANmelody Snap-ins Overview

The DataCore SANmelody storage server tools are an integrated set of snap-ins that are part of the Windows Computer Management interface, under the Storage component. You will use these DataCore-specific snap-ins to manage storage. Following are brief descriptions of the snap-ins used with SANmelody software.

To open the Help for any SANmelody snap-ins, select the snap-in in the console tree and click the Help button (SANmelody help icon SANmelody Snap ins Overview) on the toolbar or right-click the snap-in in the console tree and choose Help from the shortcut menu. Refer to Toolbar, Icons, and Status Bar for more information.  

To start and stop the storage server software:

Start the storage software by selecting the Start icon SANmelody starticon SANmelody Snap ins Overview on the toolbar. No actions are available until you do this. Start/Stop status appears in the status bar.

Stop the storage software by highlighting a storage server in the right pane and selecting Stop from the right-click menu.

CAUTION:  Only one instance of Computer Management should be open at the same time.

At the bottom of the SANmelody interface is the Status bar, see Status Bar.

The Help for the SANmelody snap-ins are available by selecting the snap-in in the console tree and clicking the Help button SANmelody helpbutton SANmelody Snap ins Overview on the toolbar.

Click on the Help menu above the toolbar and select About DataCore SANmelody to display the SANmelody software version information.

SANmelody Snap-in Descriptions

Storage Server

Displays general SANmelody system resources.

Application Servers

Allows you to define and configure volumes to be used by application servers.

Virtual Volumes

Allows you to create virtual volume resources from available raw disk space.

Disk Manager

Physical Disks – Shows available raw disk resources that can be used in virtual capacity pools. See Physical Disks.

NMV Pools - Allows you to create and configure auto provisioned virtual capacity pools. See NMV Pools-Disk Manager.

Protected Volumes - Disk resources that cannot be selected to be used in virtual capacity pools.  Allows Windows file system volumes to be protected. See Protected Volumes.

AIM Source Manager

Allows you to configure AIM sets and groups, perform and monitor AIM operations.

AIM Destination Manager

Allows you to configure the AIM destination server.

Snapshot Manager

Allow you to configure snapshot sets and perform snapshot operations.

Disk Path Manager

Shows you the physical disks seen by ports managed by SANmelody software. See Disk Path Manager.

Fibre Channel Manager

Allow you to monitor the Fibre Channel SAN and to configure the properties of each Fibre Channel HBA.

iSCSI Manager

Allows you to monitor the iSCSI LAN and to configure the properties of each iSCSI NIC.

Trace Console

Allows you to monitor detailed Fibre Channel or iSCSI channel activity.
