Pools Performance
Pools Performance is available from the console under Disk Manager. Right-click NMV Pools and select View Status from the shortcut menu.
This tool provides a view of storage-related metrics for NMV pools. The SAUs (storage allocation units) which comprise storage pools may be in one of three states: available, allocated, or in reclamation. Reclamation is the process of writing zeros to the storage. Reclamation occurs after a previously used volume from a pool is deleted.
The tree in the left pane controls what is displayed in the columns in the right pane. Select a storage server in the tree to see a list of pools in that storage server. Select a pool in the tree to see a list of disks assigned to that pool.
To open the Pool Performance Help, click Help in the menu bar.
Following is a description of the columns displayed when the region or storage server is selected in the left pane.
Column Name |
Description |
Pool Name |
This is the name of the pool given in SANmelody software. |
Type |
This is the type of the pool: Dynamic. |
Usage |
A bar chart displaying the usage of the pool. The bar chart can consist of several portions: Blue — SAUs in reclamation Gray — SAUs allocated White or empty — SAUs available Red — Storage capacity alert point has been reached A red line marks the location of the storage alert capacity threshold in relation to the pool size. The bars are shown in proportion to the largest disk in the list. This may read “N/A” briefly while the tool is connecting to performance data. |
Size |
The total logical size of the pool, in gigabytes. This may read “N/A” while the tool is connecting to performance data. Tip: The logical size of a pool is not necessarily the sum of the sizes of all disks assigned to that pool. If disks are mirrored in a pool, their sizes are not double-counted. For example, if two 18 GB disks are assigned to a pool as a mirror pair, they will increase the Total Logical Size of the pool by 18 GB, not 36 GB. |
Available |
The amount of the pool available for allocation to new or existing NMV volumes defined on that pool, in gigabytes. This may read “N/A” briefly while the tool is connecting to performance data. |
Status |
Refer to Pool Status for additional information. |
Pool ID |
The globally unique identifier (GUID) of the pool. Each pool is identified to the system by its GUID, not by its Pool Name. The Pool Name is used for display purposes. This GUID is used (for example) in DcsVlv event log messages that refer to the pool. |
Following is a description of the columns displayed when a pool is selected in the left pane.
Column Name |
Description |
Disk Number |
The Windows disk number of the disk. |
Mirror |
The Windows disk number of the disk’s mirror in this pool. Disks may be assigned to NMV pools in mirror pairs using SANmelody software. This is not related to Windows Disk Management mirroring or mirroring functions defined in RAID controllers. If the disk was assigned to the NMV pool without a mirror, this column is blank. This may read “N/A” briefly while the tool is connecting to performance data. |
Model |
The Vendor and Product identification data from the disk. This also includes a disk serial number, if one is available. |
Size |
The amount of the disk dedicated to NMV’s use, in gigabytes (GB). Tip: This may be slightly less than the actual size of the physical disk. NMV will reserve the greatest portion of the disk that is a multiple of the pool’s SAU size. Any portion of the disk left over will not be used for NMV. This may read “N/A” briefly while the tool is connecting to performance data. |
Mirror State |
This displays the status of the disk as it functions in a mirror pair. This column will say “Healthy,” “Out Of Sync,” or will display a bar chart to indicate the progress of recovery (0-100%). For example, if disks 16 and 20 are assigned to a pool as a mirror pair, and if disk 20 is in recovery, then this column will contain a bar chart for disk 20 (not disk 16), indicating that disk 20 is in recovery. If the disk was assigned to the NMV pool without a mirror, this column is blank. |
