Enabling/Disabling LUN Distribution
DataCore SANmelody’s own LUN Distribution feature can be used on any storage controller that has active/active LUN capability, is using qualified Fibre Channel HBAs to connect to the storage array and has the DataCore driver installed on it.
SANmelody software allows you to distribute LUN visibility across available storage server initiator channels. Enabling LUN distribution evenly distributes the LUNs through these storage server channels. For example, if you have a disk array containing eight LUNs zoned to four channels on a storage server and you enable this feature, SANmelody software distributes these LUNs over the four channels, discovering two LUNs per channel.
LUN distribution does not round robin the I/O to the storage array target ports. See LUN Distribution Scenarios.
If you have multiple channels going to a disk array, you may wish to distribute LUNs across available storage server channels that are connected to it. This feature adds a new level of availability that handles storage channel failures which could otherwise trigger an AP or MPIO path switch.
SANmelody LUN distribution is enabled by default. If LUN distribution is manually disabled or enabled, the storage server must be restarted.
To disable/enable LUN distribution:
-
In the SANmelody snap-in, open Disk Path Manager.
-
In the left pane, expand Initiator Ports.
-
Select the initiator port in the left pane and choose Port Options and select LUN Distribution from the context menu. The check mark disappears when LUN distribution is disabled or appears when enabled. (Repeat for other ports as necessary.)
-
Apply the configuration.
-
Restart the storage server.
