Starting SANmelody

In this topic, you will start SANmelody™ software in order to configure your storage servers and use the SANmelody software.

All of the enhanced Disk Services available in the SANmelody software are configured and run from an extended set of MMC snap-ins that run in Windows Computer Management. You will find the DataCore SANmelody root snap-in in the console tree under the Storage component. For more information, refer to SANmelody Snap-ins Overview.

Follow these steps to start SANmelody software after the initial installation:
  1. Open the SANmelody interface from Start>All Programs>DataCore Software>SANmelody.
    (Alternatively, the SANmelody software can be opened from the system tray. Right-click the DataCore icon SANmelody dcswicon Starting SANmelody  and select Open Computer Management in the shortcut menu.)

  2. You may receive a Windows User Account Control message for permission to run Microsoft Management Console. Click Continue.

  3. In the Computer Management console tree, open the SANmelody interface which is located under the Storage component.

  4. In the SANmelody software, click the Storage Server component in the console tree to open the Storage Server snap-in.  

  5. You will receive a message asking you to start the SANmelody storage server. Click OK on the message.

  6. Please notice in the Status bar at the bottom of the window, the status reads Stopped-Not Applied. No configuration has been applied yet to the new installation.

  7. Start the SANmelody virtualization software by clicking the Start button SANmelody starticon Starting SANmelody on the toolbar. The status displayed in the Status bar changes from Stopped to Running. No SANmelody services are available until you do this.

  8. Apply the configuration changes by clicking the Apply Configuration button SANmelody applyicon Starting SANmelody  on the toolbar. Please notice in the status displayed in the Status bar changes from Running-Not Applied to Running – Applied.

  9. You will receive a message that the configuration was successfully applied. Click OK on the message.

  10. These instructions are performed locally; if you have two storage servers in your configuration, you should follow these steps on both servers.
