Trace Log

Trace Logs is one of the components of the Trace Console, a tool in  the SANmelody snap-in.

Current Trace Log session parameters are displayed. Log information starts automatically when the SANmelody software starts and uses the basic default parameters displayed below. The Trace Log parameters can be customized.

Changing Trace Log Parameters

Select the Trace Logs component in the console tree and choose Stop Logging from the shortcut menu.

From the same context menu, choose Start Logging. The Log Session Parameters dialog box opens.

Customize the parameters as desired. The Flush Delay is how often the logs are written to disk.

Click Start Session to start logging again with the new parameters.

Trace Logs

Trace Logs are stored in the location provided in the Log Directory (see above). Logs are provided for each port. File names begin with SCSI_Ports_MAC (for iSCSI) or WWN (for Fibre Channel) with the associated number appended for identification and end with the .etl extension. Older logs have _002 and so on to identify them. For instance, a current file name for a Fibre Channel port could be SCSI_Ports_WWN_20FE0030D900000E.etl and an older file for the same port would be named SCSI_Ports_WWN_20FE0030D900000E_002.etl. As the current file reaches capacity, the information is written to another file, for instance SCSI_Ports_WWN_20FE0030D900000E_003.etl and so on.
