About Cluster Path

Cluster path typically is used when the application servers have cluster software installed—i.e., the storage server is serving virtual volumes to application servers with cluster management software.

Cluster servers require that its servers share at least one SCSI or Fibre Channel disk. In other words, that all servers using cluster path must be able to access the disk. With cluster path, a single virtual volume may be presented to both cluster servers. However, it is important to note that each application server will access the virtual volume via separate, redundant paths. The storage server will allow simultaneous access to the virtual volume via each of the paths. It is the responsibility of the cluster software running on the application servers to coordinate access to the shared virtual volume.
